Job description

Join our contributor community

PortAnnotate recruits annotators, evaluators and transcribers directly across 12 countries and 13 languages. Work is remote, paid by the hour, and scheduled around you. One profile carries across every project you apply to.

About the role

Someone typed "jaguar". Animal, car, or football club?

That is the job, a few thousand times over: one short query, one intent label, chosen from a written taxonomy. It sounds mechanical until you meet the queries. Often the only evidence you have is a single word and the market it arrived from, and the honest answer is a probability rather than a certainty.

Key responsibilities

  • Assign one intent label per query: navigational, informational, transactional or local.
  • Use the market a query came from as evidence when the words are ambiguous.
  • Apply the taxonomy identically across thousands of items.
  • Flag queries the taxonomy genuinely cannot express.
  • Review a sample of your own earlier work for drift.

Your fit

Qualification path

Required qualifications

  • Comfortable reading at least one language on your profile at speed.
  • Able to hold a taxonomy in mind across long sessions.
  • Willing to commit to a best reading rather than stalling on ambiguity.

Technical expertise

Applicants should be comfortable with most of the following:

  • Consistency at volume
  • Cultural and regional context
  • Intent analysis
  • Multilingual reading
  • Taxonomy application

Also useful

Experience in one or more of the following is an advantage:

  • Several languages listed on your profile, which widens your queue.
  • Search quality, SEO or query analysis background.
  • Strong knowledge of a specific market: its brands, places and slang.

Frequently asked questions

What happens after I apply?

Your application opens at the screening stage. A reviewer checks your profile, languages and resume against the posting, and every stage appears on your application page as it moves.

What does "in review" mean?

Screening has been passed and a reviewer is assessing you against the specific requirements of the project. You will get a notification the moment that changes.

What does "accepted" mean?

You have been selected for the project. Onboarding details and the first assignment follow by email at the address on your account.

Why can I not apply to some postings?

Postings can be restricted to one country or one language. Where you do not qualify, the posting names the exact requirement you miss so you can fix your profile if it is out of date.
